The blade of the weapon is in the distinctive barong form of the Badjao people. What makes this piece truly unique is the scabbard which is decorated with foliate carvings, studded with metal inlay. An American eagle is the centerpiece of the scabbard, a foreign motif, borrowed no doubt from the American forces who pacified the southern tribes in the early 20 th century. The worn surface of the scabbard attests to the age of the piece.
